Philosophy of The Journal of Integrative Physiology
The primary philosophy of The Journal of Integrative Physiology is to engage young, emerging physiologists in scholarly activity as researchers, authors, and reviewers of scholarly work, the JIP Editorial Board has established the following policies.
Who Can Submit?
It is required that at least one author was a student (either undergraduate or graduate) at the time of data collection, and that the student author(s) played a prominent role in the study. All authors should have made substantive intellectual contributions to the overall project (e.g., conception and design of the study, data acquisition or analysis , statistical testing, etc.), and should take public responsibility for the content. Contributors who do not meet these criteria for authorship may be listed in the acknowledgments section.
General Submission Rules
Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to The Journal of Integrative Physiology, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at The Journal of Integrative Physiology. If you have concerns about the submission terms for The Journal of Integrative Physiology, please contact the editors.
Types of Submissions
JIP will consider original research articles, methodological updates, case studies, and systematic literature review articles. Original research articles must be derived from well-developed research questions or hypotheses. They must be conducted in accordance with and with approval of the appropriate institutional review policies regarding human and/or animal ethical conduct. Research studies that replicate a previously conducted study may be acceptable as long as the techniques and methods used to conduct the research are sound and the results help to verify or clarify some unique aspect of the original research that remained ambiguous. Systematic literature review articles are expected to be thorough and offer an important evaluation of published literature through comparison and analysis, and provide suggestions for future research. Consult the Instruction for Authors for detailed directions regarding each of the types of submissions.
Formatting Requirements
The Journal of Integrative Physiology has no general rules about the formatting of articles upon initial submission. There are, however, rules governing the formatting of the final submission. See Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for details. Although bepress can provide limited technical support, it is ultimately the responsibility of the author to produce an electronic version of the article as a high-quality PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format) file, or a Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or RTF file that can be converted to a PDF file.
