Aims & Scope

Aim

The Journal of Integrative Physiology (JIP) is dedicated to the dissemination of original research conducted by undergraduate and graduate students in collaboration with their faculty mentors. It is a priority of the journal that papers submitted to JIP involve students in all phases of the research process including planning, implementing, writing, revising, and reviewing so as to aid in the development of future professionals in Physiology. Thus, for a paper to be eligible for submission to JIP, at least one author must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of data collection.

Scope

The scope of the journal is consistent with the definition of physiology as stated by the American Physiology Society:

“Physiology is the science of life. It is the branch of biology that aims to understand the mechanisms of living things, from the basis of cell function at the ionic and molecular level to the integrated behavior of the whole body and the influence of the external environment. Research in physiology helps us to understand how the body works in health and how it responds and adapts to the challenges of everyday life; it also helps us to determine what goes wrong in disease, facilitating the development of new treatments and guidelines for maintaining human and animal health. The emphasis on integrating molecular, cellular, systems and whole body function is what distinguishes physiology from the other life sciences.”

Therefore, the journal will accept manuscripts dealing with a wide array of physiological topics ranging from molecular to the whole organism.
