This I Believe

This I Believe

This I Believe is a collection of essays written by Alma College students engaged in the First Year Seminar class. These students were asked to write a short essay that expresses a core belief or a guiding principle in their lives. The assignment was based on the original radio show of the same name hosted by Edward R. Murrow in the 1950's. The series was resurrected more recently by National Public Radio and now contains over 125,000 of these statements from people of all walks of life.

The artwork above is by Rachel Hickson who is an Alma College student from the U.K. Rachel wrote, "This piece is created to present me in a vulnerable manner, focusing on my newfound need to assimilate into a new culture. This ultimately blurs my old identity and sense of self as I learn to balance the old and new aspects of myself."
