First Year Seminar
First Year Seminar (FYS) is a course designed for incoming Alma College students as they begin their academic journey. FYS is built around three key pillars, i.e., navigating college, building community, and developing academic belonging. Students participate in living-learning communities with fellow classmates and together they explore what it means to succeed in college, gain confidence, and develop the skills and mindset that supports academic and personal growth. This collection represents of some of the academic accomplishments that students completed during the course.
The artwork above is painted by Grace Gottschalk who is a student at Alma College majoring in biochemistry. In this piece, Grace wanted to show the complex journey of life and becoming ourselves. She was especially inspired by the idea that we are everything we’ve seen and everyone we’ve met.
